Resurgent Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

His defensive play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

However the player has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to create a final set.

He rescued four early opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
