The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
